HABITER 2030, a student team from Hauts-de-France region, wins the Solar Decathlon Europe 2019 thanks to a positive energy house

Since the end of 2018, the group Les Manufactures Fevrier has been supporting Habiter2030, the only French team in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2019 competition.

Composed of the National School of Architecture and Landscape of Lille led by François Andrieux, the workers association the Compagnons du Devoir et du Tour de France from Villeneuve d'Ascq led by Jocelyn Gac, the team Habiter 2030 was consecrated for his Positive Energy House project on Sunday, July 28, 2019, in Szentendre, near Budapest;

During this international university competition, where leading schools from around the world get together around a challenge. Solar Decathlon Europe has proposed to design and build a real size, energy efficient, technically advanced, attractive and eco-friendly home using the sun as the unique source of energy.

The novelty of the 2019 edition: rehabilitation.

During the ten tests of this international academic competition where multidisciplinary teams of students imagine prototypes of house for a decarbonated future, H2030 team has distinguished itself in particular on three criteria: circularity and sustainability, urban integration and impact, and the energy balance. .

Habiter2030: the only French team in the competition

With 14 Hauts-de-France schools (200 students, teachers, trainers and professionals), the Habiter2030 team tackled the issue of terraced houses such as there are about 700,000 in the Hauts-de-France region. These houses usually brick, characteristics of the industrial era, often poorly insulated, today require massive rehabilitation to actively fight against global warming.

An ambition

For two years, the two hundred students, architects, engineers, designers, political, scientists and young Companions built a replica of terraced houses by optimizing its construction from an energy point of view. They planned an insulation favoring the soil and the roof with ecological insulation based on recycled cotton, made up hemp-based plasters, curtains to modulate the spaces according to the uses and the seasons. During the two weeks of competition, the solar and thermal panels produced more electricity than the house consumed.

This victory of the H2030 team in front of prestigious European architecture schools, such as TU Delft, Bucharest, and the University of Ghent, highlights the real challenge and impact of the Lille proposal.

Why the group Les Manufactures Février support the project

The energy rehabilitation project is an issue that goes beyond the technical one, it is a real architectural project, human, a source of employment and training of all the actors of the building. The multiple partners of this demonstrator are committed to drawing all the lessons from the prototype, to develop research and to continue the experimentation on real houses for the inhabitants who suffer from energy insecurity ! This will be the next human, social, technical and architectural challenge of the Habiter2030 association.

To accompany this exciting project, two companies of the group Manufactures February have made their contribution to the building: Brugère provided the wood used for the construction of the kitchen and Régnier provided the chairs showed in the prototype living room.

For Christophe Février, Chairman of the group: "This is a project of economic and social scale with a real impact on the" live better "in line with the sustainable development goals of the various communities and especially those in Hauts de France region. « We congratulate all the students, professors and professionals who have contributed to the construction of the sustainable house of tomorrow and thank the entire Habiter 2030 team, especially for this wonderful adventure shared together. "

It is planned that the prototype of the future house of the Hauts de France will soon be exhibited in Lille, in the former industrial district "Fives-Cail". Symbol of the industrial activity of yesterday, this site of civil engineering and metal construction where hundreds of workers worked illustrates the memory of the technical, mechanical and technological evolutions which allowed, among others, the construction of the tunnel under the Channel, lifts of the Eiffel Tower or trains of Lille Metro.

A case to follow so ...
